“Red lights and turn lanes are optional, now,” OP titled his thread.

Semi truck driver and Redditor /u/Dac550 shared some eye-opening dashcam footage of behavior he sees all the time. This bit of red light running gone mad was in Hartford, Conn from earlier last year (Sept 26, 2024) and shared to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit.

Check out OP’s video embedded below with their original Reddit thread linked here.

As the dashcam footage shows, OP rolls up to the Boce Barlow Way and Windsor St. intersection at around 11 P.M. on a Thursday (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

Up ahead, you can see four vehicles roll through the right turn while the light up ahead shows red.

While it’s legal to turn right on red in Connecticut, you have to come to a complete stop first, otherwise you’re running a red light.

A car with the right of way on Boce Barlow goes through and, when you thought it was over, another car from the left lane turns in front of OP for a total of five red light runners in 15 seconds.

“I’m driving a semi-truck loaded with 47,000 pounds of drywall. Takes a hit second to get that moving from a dead stop. Company policy is also no turn on red, so I’m not risking my job to save a few seconds. You can also clearly see me moving when the light turns green lol.”

“Honestly, one of my pet peeves is when people treat reds as greens like that. Not a single stop in sight. XD,” /u/PUNCH-WAS-SERVED commented.

“I’d send it to the cops so they know to sit out and catch a bunch of idiots,” /u/Fluffy_Doubter suggested.

“These are exactly the kind of intersections that need a traffic camera,” /u/Mark7Point5 controversially added.

Running red lights in Connecticut is subject to a $139 fine before fees and two points on your driving record.
