An impatient Audi driver used a breakdown lane on I-5 to overtake while it was pouring rain only to spin out of control, roping in an innocent driver, too.
SoCal commuter and Redditor /u/qqqaaazzz111 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last year (Apr 5, 2024) from I-5 in Tustin, CA showing an idiot driver in his Audi attempt and fail to pull off a reckless passing maneuver using the breakdown lane while it was pouring rain.
Instead of passing, the Audi driver spun out of control, roped in an innocent driver, and almost caused a messy and rainy multi-car collision.
Check out how it all played out in OP’s dashcam video below (original Reddit thread linked here.)
The incident happened on the 5 in Tustin just before the Red Hill Ave exit (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As /u/qqqaaazzz111’s dashcam video shows, they’re traveling in the left, passing lane of I-5, and yes, OP is actively passing someone, so they’re using the left lane as intended.
According to OP’s title, a driver in an Audi is just about tailgating them, eager to pass at above 65 MPH.
Suddenly, we see the Audi driver appear on OP’s left as they attempt to use the breakdown lane to overtake.
The Audi driver brakes, at which point they lose traction and begin spinning, eventually turning a full 360 degrees.
Their recklessness manages to rope in an innocent driver in a black truck, who gets pit-maneuvered by the spinning Audi.
The truck just about spins a full 540 degrees (1.5 spins) before coming to a screeching halt right in front of OP.
OP manages to stop in time, just about avoiding T-boning the truck, and that’s where the dashcam video ends.
“When did everyone on the road become a heart surgeon on the way to an emergency surgery? What the hell is everyone in a hurry to actually get to?” /u/nanneryeeter wondered.
“They are literally passing someone at the same time. So no matter if they were just about to get over or hadn’t, the Audi could have waited a bit before they were entitled to be impatient,” /u/ibrcrosselini pointed out.
“At least it looked like the truck missed the concrete divider. Or just grazed it at least,” /u/GDITurbo77 added.
OP doesn’t give any further detail or replies to any comments so, as to the outcome beyond what the video shows, your guess is as good as mine.
It’s never legal to use the emergency breakdown lane for anything other than its intended purpose.
