Drivers paying attention where able to slam on the brakes in time, narrowly avoiding a collision.
Boca Raton commuter and Redditor /u/Teemosfinest shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier this February (Feb 13, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a reckless driver blow through a red light a good six seconds after their light turned red.
Check out their dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of Palmetto Park and US-441 in Boca Raton, FL (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, they’re stopped at the aforementioned intersection.
Keen eyes will notice cross traffic already has a red light, a common traffic light pattern where a beat of time is programmed in, taking into account a red light runner.
Traffic on Palmetto Parks gets the green and the right of way and, as traffic inches into the intersection, a good 6+ seconds after cross traffic gets a red light, a red light runners blazes past.
Thankfully, drivers are paying attention, and a driver who would’ve t-boned the red light runner slams on their brakes in time, narrowly avoiding a collision.
Another driver following close behind is at a safe enough following distance that, despite the emergency brake, they were able to avoid a rear-end collision, too.
Thankfully, everyone makes it out of the incident unscathed.
“I see this way more than I’d like to, fortunately have never been caught up in it. Always look both ways before crossing the road applies while driving as well! Red doesn’t mean stop to everyone it seems,” /u/Heidi_ann76 suggested.
“I always pause a second before going on green for this exact reason. Too many close calls have me defensive on green lights,” /u/sephfury added.
“Looks like a Civic sedan,” /u/Kowloon9 pointed out.
“The sloppy GM 6AT saved that Regal.”
In Florida, red-light runners are subject to a $158 fine and three points on your record.
