A driver merging onto the 210 pulls a no-look merge only to slam into the side of a Toyota Corolla.
SoCal commuter and Redditor /u/VehCeh shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in February (Feb 16, 2025) from the San Fernando Freeway showing an idiot driver in what looks like a Ford Escape or Mercury Mariner pulling a no-look merge, only to sideswipe a driver minding their own business.
Check out the results of their driving ineptitude caught on dashcam below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened in Los Angeles on the 210 (San Fernando Freeway) right where cars merge from La Tuna Canyon Rd (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As their dashcam footage shows, you can see a driver in a Ford Escape merging onto the 210.
I measured the length of the merge lane and it’s about 440 meters, more than a quarter mile long to get up to speed.
It’s also, quite literally, the easiest-looking merge lane in history. I’ve highlighted it below.
After successfully merging, they either inadvertently or purposely drift leftwards into another lane.
The Escape driver is clearly not looking because they collide with the side of a poor Toyota Corolla driver.
The hit looks like it happened on the rear quarter panel and hard enough there’s a chance the whole car is totaled (a $7,000 repair on what looks like a $5,000 car.)
Thankfully, the Ford Escape driver did the right thing and attempted to waive the Corolal driver down, because they kept on driving.
“They kept going for another mile until the SUV waved the sedan to pull over.”
“Man, they were committed to not looking over their shoulder,” /u/appa-ate-momo commented.
“Idiot gets on the highway and thinks that no way can there be other cars here,” top commenter /u/_jump_yossarian added.
Merging onto the freeway can be a challenge, but it doesn’t have to be difficult.
Most get the idea of getting up to speed but many don’t remember that you have the responsibility to yield to vehicles already on the highway.
Sure, a semi-driver might do you a solid and move over a lane to avoid a collision with you, but the onus is on you to merge safely with everyone else, and that means checking your mirrors and looking over your shoulder until it’s safe to merge.
