Dashcam owner’s defensive driving and quick reflexes prevented them from getting T-boned.

New Ann Arbor resident and Redditor /u/itsyerboiTRESH shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (Feb 18, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in a Hyundai subcompact crossover pull a reckless maneuver by making a last-second left turn from the right lane meant only to go straight.

/u/itsyerboiTRESH comes within inches of getting hit but manages to swerve out of the way, narrowly avoiding a collision.

The incident happened at the intersection of E Ann St and N 5th Ave in Ann Arbor (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As their dashcam footage shows, OP is driving along 5th Ave in the left lane of this two-lane street.

Cars wanting to make a left turn must do so from the left-most lane unless signage designates their lane as a turn lane (there is no signage saying such at this intersection.)

Up ahead you can see a driver in the right lane signaling to turn left.

OP assumed they’d wait for him to pass, but such was not the case.

” I was fully convinced they were gonna wait for traffic to clear and then merge.”

The driver in the Hyundai makes a quick left and OP does their best to dodge their hare-brained maneuver.

“They fully saw me and then decided to make a late turn. It looked like they had stopped and were going to wait, so imagine my surprise once they swung that wheel around to try to make it.

OP thought he got hit but thankfully made it out unscathed.

“Not that I’m excusing anything from the idiot or blaming OP, but stuff like this is exactly why I don’t accelerate toward a fresh green light. Red light runner (“It was PINK!”) from the left clipped my bumper once, so now I slow down until I’m sure idiots have all made their move before proceeding at speed,” /u/MakeOutPoint commented.

“I’d be willing to bet the idiot didn’t even realize he is on a one-way. I had this happen to me and when I got out of my car the idiot asked me why I passed him on the left. I still remember the look on his face when I said “It’s a one way moron”! Complete brain reset!,” /u/MG962 added.
