A BMW driver on the newly renovated Second Street hits the gas, slamming into Jaguar SUV, which takes out a bench and hits another car in one chaotic moment.
Highland Park resident and Redditor /u/Impaqt shared headshaking security camera footage from earlier at the end of February (Feb 28, 2025) from downtown on 2nd Street showing the harebrained moment a driver in a red BMW SUV hit the gas, slamming into an SUV in front of them sending them into a bench and car.
Check out the chaotic moment on their Reddit thread below.
Glad I wasn’t on that bench![OC]

The incident happened in the 1000 block of 2nd Street in Highland Park (Exact location on Google Maps linked here).
Noteworthy, this area just underwent extensive renovation and Grand Re-Opening a few months prior.
As the security camera footage shows, a driver in a white Jaguar SUV pulls into a space between a red BMW SUV and a Jeep Compass.
For some wild reason which OP attributes to a “brain fart” the driver in the BMW hits the gas rearending the Jag, sending them into a new sidewalk bench and the Jeep in front of them before coming to a stop.
“(She had) dome sort of brain fart. She didn’t realize someone pulled into the spot in front of her somehow.’
Thankfully, it looks like no one was seriously hurt or injured.
Even the tree next to the now-wrecked bench makes it out unscathed.
Phased, both drivers can be seen sitting in their respective vehicles, collecting themselves before presumably climbing out to exchange information.
“They’re probably looking behind them, expecting to move backwards when they release the brake. Confused that they haven’t moved backwards, they give it a little gas. Then, inexplicably, when they move forward and crash, they continue mashing the gas pedal…” /u/KBHoleN1 hypothesizes.
“Looks like they thought it was in reverse and scared themselves while looking backwards,” /u/NamiaKnows concurred.
“Forget Road Rage, this was Parking Rage. How dare they cut me off while parking!,” /u/Grim-Sabre humoursly added.
Gear selectors nowadays can be complicated and take time to get used to.
When confused, it’s best to drive and take things slowly, lest you end up in a situation like this.
