Stopping on an onramp is a great way to cause a wreck, which is exactly what this driver in a Nissan Rogue did.
San Antonio commuter and Redditor /u/Wongatronus shared head-shaking dashcam footage from earlier last year (August 19, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a clueless driver in a white Nissan Rogue come to a complete stop on a dedicated onramp lane onto the Loop 410, exponentially increasing the chances of a wreck.
Check out their idiotic maneuver below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident took place on the NW Loop 410 access road (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, OP is on the dedicated merge lane headed onto the Loop 410.
As his indicated speed shows, he comes up to the speed of traffic at around 60 MPH, like you’re supposed to.
He suddenly almost comes to an abrupt stop as a driver in a white Nissan Rogue on the same onramp lane fails to merge correctly.
Instead of coming up to speed, they’ve slowed to a crawl and almost a complete stop.
With no room to accelerate, the Rogue driver now has to find a gap in traffic to merge, forcing drivers with the right of way to adjust their speed for a mistake that shouldn’t have happened.
In other words, there’s now a situation with an increased chance for a wreck.
Thankfully, the Rogue driver eventually merges, and nothing comes of the incident.
“It’s genuinely upsetting these people were given licenses. This one is particularly triggering as the on-ramp near my house begins at the bottom of a steep hill, and well, you all can imagine how my daily commute goes,” /u/excitatory commented.
“I’ve seen this kind of sh*** in Portland area since I’m driving a semi truck and instead of speeding up they’d rather slow to a stop and then I’m left with trying to gain speed fully loaded,” /u/BrussKnackles added.
“Seen so many people do this in Oregon. Just f***ing merge it really isn’t that hard. Slowing down/stop like that is very dangerous,” /u/MeadowGhostTV replied.
As this falls under falling to yield, fines range from up to $200 if no accident occurs all the way up to, but not limited to, $4,000 in the case of serious bodily injuries occurring.
