Was this an Autopilot failure, or was this Tesla driver simply not paying attention? Also, annoying screams warning.
Bay Area commuter and Redditor /u/AMAZIIIIIN shared dumbfounding dashcam footage from earlier last weekend (March 30,2025) to the /r/MildlyBadDrivers subreddit showing a Tesla Model 3 driver scrape his wheels and doors colliding with the side of this 280 to 880 connecter ramp.
Check out his dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
As mentioned, the incident happened in San Jose on this 280 to 880 connector ramp (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As his dashcam footage shows, OP’s making his way onto the 880 from 280 following a white Tesla Model 3, License Plate 9HLU120.

For some reason, the driver in the Tesla Model 3 almost slows to a crawl causing OP to slam on his brakes hard to avoid hitting them.
“Honk, babe, honk,” his girl screams as he comes within feet of almost rear-ending the doofus Tesla driver.
The Tesla Model 3 can be seen slamming into the side of the connector ramp, badly scraping his wheels and door.
“What the f*** is he doing,” OP says.
“He’s sleeping, babe. Stop. He is probably asleep or something. He’s NOT paying attention. Stop honking, you’re causing trouble…Right when you know you’re going to hit someone, honey, you have to honk.”
Although OP follows the Tesla from a safe distance, the Tesla driver goes through a gore point before eventually settling into one of 880’s slow lanes.
Many Redditors praised OP for his level-headed response.
“Finally a driver paying attention AND who doesn’t hold the horn for the entire duration of the clip, AND also is smart enough to back off and give the guy space rather than riding his ass when he’s swerving around like a maniac,” the top comment from /u/fongletto reads.
As you can guess, a good chunk of comments called out OP’s lady contradicting herself with the “Honk!” and then “Don’t honk!” statements.
“”Honk at him!” “Stop honking at him; he’s probably asleep!” “Why didn’t you honk at him?” Bro, I couldn’t do it. Because wtf,” /u/passionfruit2378 commented.
“Trust me, I realize it!” OP said in response to another commenter saying something similar and adding he “might be in trouble.”
As mentioned, kudos to OP for the ideal reaction, driving defensively, and not overreacting.
As for his loud shotgun rider, it sounds like he knows, no further comment needed.
