Drivers in tall vehicles must be aware of the overall height of their vehicles, something this tow truck driver didn’t do.
Flagstaff commuter and Redditor /u/Interest1876 shared headshaking dashcam footage from the middle of Flagstaff from earlier last week (April 17, 2025) showing a tow truck driver pull a bonehead move by damaging a customer’s RV camper after driving underneath the Route 66 Railway Underpass without knowing how tall his overall vehicle now was.
Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the Route 66 Railway Underpass in Flagstaff that runs between Old Sante Fe Route 66 and Phoenix Ave (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, they’re driving along Historic Route 66 when they observe a flatbed driver towing an RV camper.
As the tow truck driver approaches and drives under the underpass, the top of the RV camper hits the underpass, completely obliterating the camper’s AC unit and likely ripping the roof of the camper, too.
The tow truck driver likely feels he’s collided with the underpass as we can see them slow before presumably stopping to asses the damage.
The underpass is marked with a warning that drivers with vehicles over 13 feet 9 inches will likely hit.

“That is a bummer,” OP exclaims.
Thankfully, it looks like no other vehicles or pedestrians were damaged from the flying debris.
“Dang, didn’t know my old barber who didn’t get the meaning of, just a little off the top, became a tow truck driver!,” /u/Kindly-Pierce-428 humoursly added.
“Props to that mom for keeping the commentary PG rated, hahaha. Think the camper’s owner will call that “a bummer?,” /u/ManifestDestinysChld added.
“I wonder if he put it back on the street and drove off like he wasn’t involved afterwards,” /u/CapoKid wondered.
In Arizona and most states, damaging an underpass like this is considered a traffic violation, violators are subject to fines and penalties as prescribed in each jurisdiction’s vehicle code.
