This doofus’s belongings were scattered at the Bouquet Canyon Road and Soledad Canyon intersection, causing a dangerous condition for drivers and pedestrians.
SoCal commuter and Redditor /u/SubUrbanMess2021 shared giggle-worthy dashcam footage from this busy Santa Clarita intersection showing this dually owner gunning it at an intersection to save time, only to lose half his belongings as it toppled out of his bed onto the street.
Check out the dashcam footage and original Reddit thread embedded below.
[oc] He’s going to save time by beating the yellow light
byu/SubUrbanMess2021 inIdiotsInCars
The incident happened at the intersection of Bouquet Canyon Rd. and Soledad Canyon Rd as this truck exited Four Corners Fuel (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he’s driving along Soledad Canyon Rd when the lights at the intersection in front of him turn yellow.
Yellow means slow in preparation to stop or come to a stop, but for some drivers, like this dually owner, it means the opposite.
Gun it!
In a bid to save two minutes waiting in traffic, the driver guns it out of Four Corners Fuel.
But, with no tailgate and his belongings unsecured in his bed, the opposite of saving time happens as physics takes over, and his stuff comes tumbling out of his bed onto the intersection.
It’s so bad that cars coming from all directions now must swerve out of the way to avoid that dually owner’s debris.
OP was criticized for leaving such a large gap with the car in front of him after the fact, to which he responded,
“For all you people who think I stopped too far back, I just watched a s*** ton of stuff get dumped in my lane, and I did a reasonable thing anticipating having to change lanes to get around it. Maybe some of you think it’s easier to merge when you’re riding someone’s bumper, but in my 40+ years of driving experience, I’ve discovered that leaving room makes me less likely to be posted in this sub.”
The rest of the footage is sort of necessary, but we do see a Good Samaritan step off the sidewalk to help clean up the larger pieces from the truck.
While that truck driver might’ve saved time now getting to his destination, he’ll realize his stuff is gone and will either have to double back to retrieve it all or go out and buy new stuff.
“If only there was, let’s call it a gate, on the tail of a truck that you could flip up to secure the items in the bed of the truck,” the top comment from /u/styckx sarcastically pointed out.
“He also saved the time he would have spent putting the tailgate up. This is a master of efficiency that we should all aspire to be like!” /u/Alpine_Nomad added.
In California, driving with an unsecured load is operating an unsafe vehicle, a violation of the vehicle code with a $238 base fine before fees. (source.)
If your stuff strewn out on the road causes bodily harm, that fine goes up to a whopping $5,000. (source.)
