An impatient RAM 1500 driver found out what a bell bollard is the hard way, by driving up on one.
New York commuter and Redditor /u/schwifty_48 shared a preventable accident to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, showing an impatient driver in a RAM 1500 damaging his truck, beaching it on a bollard, as they attempted to swerve around a wrong-way driver who tried to go straight from a left-turn-only lane.
Check out the big oof moment embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident occurred off of Jackson Ave as cars turn left onto the Pulaski Bridge (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
In the dashcam video, OP is stopped, waiting to head straight off the Pulaski Bridge.
In front of him are left-turners turning off Jackson Ave and headed his way.
As this viewpoint on Google Maps shows, drivers turning are in dedicated turn lanes only.
But a driver in a Kia crossover attempts to go straight, causing the driver next to them in a Ram 1500 to swerve out of the way.
In a bid to get around the driver in the Kia, the Ram 1500 driver attempts to swing wide to complete their left turn.
Unbeknownst to the Ram driver is a pair of what are called Bell Bollards in the middle of the intersection and in front of the crosswalk, placed there to protect pedestrians from exactly this.

Made of heavy cast iron and meant to deter vehicles from pedestrian paths and other right-of-ways, the bollard does its job.
The Ram 1500 gets redirected, becoming beached on top of the bell bollard.
The clip ends, but we can assume a call to a local tow company was now in short order.
“This is in my neighborhood, LIC, the entrance to the Pulaski bridge into Greenpoint, Brooklyn,” local /u/slowcanteloupe commented.
It’s 3 lanes, the left 2 lanes are for turning onto the bridge, the third right-hand lane is for making a right, or continuing straight on to the intersection. SO yeah, this whole thing is dumb and could have been avoided because the SUV is in the wrong lane, and the pickup is ALSO in the wrong lane…..
“Well deserved!” /u/KGrahnn commented.
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that the idiot learned anything.
While the driver in the Kia was definitely in the wrong, the Ram driver could’ve exercised a bit more patience.
Doing so would’ve saved him an expensive repair bill, as, more than likely, some very expensive components underneath, the entire frame likely included, will need to be replaced.
