Driver not paying attention narrowly rear-ended stopped traffic on Lake Rd.

Woodbury commuter and Redditor /u/UpBeatBubble shared a near miss from earlier last week (May 29, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver approaching OP’s rear end, fast, only to swerve out of the way at the very last second, narrowly avoiding a rear-end collision.

Check out their dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Lake Rd. and Jordan Dr. (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

According to /u/UpBeatBubble, he came to a stop and was ready to turn left onto Jordan Dr, a legal and normal driving maneuver.

As the dashcam footage shows, a driver in a blue Ford Fusion, likely spaced out and not paying attention, comes up behind OP, fast.

Both narrowly avoid hitting each other by what looks like less than a foot.

The motion you see at the end, confused by other commenters as the other driver rear-ending OP, is OP hitting the gas pedal shortly after to mitigate a possible collision, which, thankfully, never happened.

“I double checked after I got home, and both my brake lights and turn signal (which I was using) are functional. And, the speed limit on that road is 35 MPH, for what it’s worth, even though I think almost everyone around me was going at least 40-45 MPH.”

“I ride a motorcycle, seeing s*** like this is terrifying,” motorcyclist /u/ezagreb commented.

At least one commenter blamed OP for stopping, which, as mentioned, in the context of what he was doing, turning is legal.

“Could easily be before an intersection or leading onto a side road. You shouldn’t be close enough to the person in front of you that you can’t stop or turn if they suddenly stop or turn. Sounds like people where you live just suck at driving,” /u/Agent-Issac chided another Redditor criticizising OP for stopping.

OP summed it up pretty well when he said, “Pretty much everyone was following too closely and speeding.”

Let this be a cautionary tale to other drivers: if you’re going to stay a tad above the speed limit like traffic around you, you’d better keep a safe following distance with cars in front of you and, above all else, pay attention.
