This idiot driver decided to almost cause an accident, coming to a complete stop on the Southern State Parkway, just so they don’t miss their exit.

New York commuter and Redditor /u/Sassafrasgloves shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in May (May 27, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an idiot driver just about come to a complete stop on the Southern State Parkway so they don’t miss their exit.

The incident happened on the Southern State Parkway just before Exit 15 onto Corona Ave. and Franklin Ave (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he’s driving in Lane #3 of this 4 lane freeway when he suddenly has to nearly come to a stop.

In front of him is an idiot driver in a Mercedes SUV (Plate MPV 6747) who, instead of re-routing a mile to the next nearest exit, brute forces their way across a gore point so they can make their exit towards Exit 15 onto Corona Ave. and Franklin.

This, of course, is not only dangerous but an illegal driving maneuver, a violation of VTL § 1130(2), “Improper Entrance or Exit from Controlled Access Highway,” which states,

“No person shall drive a motor vehicle or motorcycle onto or from any controlled-access highway except at the established entrances and exits thereof unless directed or permitted to use another entrance or exit by official traffic-control devices or police officers.”

Stopping and driving across a gore point is not an established exit.

OP confirms in a comment that, despite no audio being recorded, he did honk his horn for a long time.

“Oh yes, I don’t know why my camera didn’t record the sound but held the horn until I was able to get passed them.”

“Astonishing idiots, these types of people. Complete disregard for the risk they’re putting others,” the top comment from /u/millllllls reads.

“I miss exits all the time. It’s fine. Just take the next exit and loop around. Are you really going to risk your life to save a couple minutes??” /u/Markuus99 put it.

But, as the unofficial motto of bad drivers is, “Bad drivers never miss their exit.”

Violators of VTL § 1130(2) are subject to a $243 fine before all the fees and two points on your driving record.
