This driver found out the hard way why it’s not a good idea to pass in a no-passing zone.

Weld County commuter and Redditor /u/BigTimeMoose007 shared surprising dashcam footage from earlier in May (May 30,2025) to the /r/Dashcam subreddit showing an impatient driver attempt to pass in a no passing zone, only to realize at the last second he can’t pull it off, forcing himself into a ditch to avoid a t-bone accident.

Check out the dashcam video below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened in the 6800 block of Weld County Rd 54 just before the intersection with Weld County Rd 15 (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s dashcam video shows, he slows down on Weld County Rd 54 as a truck in front of him comes to a stop and indicates a left-hand turn.

“As it (the truck) started turning, the vehicle behind attempted to pass in a no passing zone.”

As confirmed on Google Maps and the video, cars going OP’s direction have a solid yellow line indicating no passing.

The overtaker in what looks like an early 2000s Nissan Pathfinder, to their credit. presumably sees the left turner begin their turn and, instead of t-boning the turner, opts to drive into the ditch, only damaging his vehicle.

He takes out a sign on his way back onto the main road, likely forced to change his underwear when he eventually gets to where he was going.

With dashcam footage in hand, OP reported the incident to the proper authorities, to which OP confirmed the driver was ticketed.

“Cops were notified, and the driver was ticketed.”

In Colorado, improper passing is a Class A infraction, punishable by a fine of up to $100 and 3 points on your driving record.

Unsafe lane changes are Class A infractions, too, with the same fine amount before all the fees, but 4 points on your record.

“Hope that sign f***ed his vehicle up. What an absolute douche. Especially in the rain,” the top comment from /u/blueminded reads.

“I like how he just keeps going – “yeah, I meant to do that,” /u/WhatRUaBarnBurner added.

“I know EXACTLY where this is. Terrible stretch of road,” local /u/kamp_krusty added.

If you ever find yourself cocky enough, while driving, to start ignoring lane markings, signs, and weather conditions, let this be a cautionary tale for you.

That driver escaped with only vehicle damage, but it could’ve ended up a whole lot worse, for sure.
