CHP’s stealthy Dodge Durango Pursuits helped them observe and take down a reckless speeder going twice the legal limit.
According to KTVU 2 reporter Henry K. Lee, CHP officers from Hayward are singing the praises of their new Stealth Dodge Durangos, saying how, on July 4, their low profile nature helped them observe and take down a reckless speeder going 135 MPH, twice the legal limit, on I-580.
Here’s Lee’s post on X.com below with all the details.

Earlier in May, CHP announced they’ve outfitted and handed out 100 Dodge Durango Pursuits with special low-profile graphics meant to help them blend in with regular traffic.
While the graphics package doesn’t increase performance, as the video shows, it helped CHP follow the offending, reckless driver, not alerting the driver to the CHP’s presence.
In the video, we can see a driver in a Lexus GS300 weaving in and out of traffic at triple-digit speeds.
The speed limit on I-580 is mostly 65 MPH.
Caught pushing 135.
That’s twice the legal limit.
Thanks to the Dodge Durango’s performance, with a top speed of around 140 MPH, not only were CHP able to observe, but they could keep up, too.
Presumably, once the CHP officers turned on their reds, blues, and sirens, the driver realized it was game over, exited, and pulled over.
Likely fined for reckless driving and speeding over 100 MPH, not only is this driver subject to a fine of at least $500, a license suspension, and possible jail time up to 90 days, CHP also used their discretion and impounded his vehicle, too.
It’s game over for this reckless speeder, at least for the time being.
