Despite having the green to go, this driver was trying to negotiate with another driver in a turn lane to let them cut in, almost causing a massive accident behind them.

Seminole County commuter and Redditor /u/Unfair-Statement-622 shared headshaking dashcam footage from way earlier in the year (Feb 7, 2025) showing a driver trying to negotiate their way into a turn lane, stopped in front of a green, almost causing a multi-car pileup behind them as a result.

Check out their harebrained attempt in the embedded video below, with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of FL-46 and Hickman Dr. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is on FL-46 coming in hot towards the intersection with Hickman Dr, and why shouldn’t he?

Traffic going straight, OP included, has the green light.

Suddenly, the driver in front of him comes to an abrupt stop, leaving OP with little reaction time.

Thankfully, the turn lanes, except for a few cars in front, are open for him to dive into.

OP emergency brakes and slides into the turn lanes, coming within a few feet of driving over the slightly raised median.

The reason the driver in front of them has to stop? There’s a driver stopped in front of them.

Before you extend the benefit of the doubt their way because cars do break down or drivers can have an emergency for any number of reasons, here’s what OP had to say re their reason.

“lol, I wish that was the case. She was talking to the SUV on her left to ask if she can turn with them…,” OP replied to someone asking perhaps they had car troubles.

OP did concede that he could’ve been following the white SUV in front of them a little farther, so, ideally, when he emergency braked, he could’ve stopped without swerving into the other lanes.

Hey, no one’s perfect, right?

Fortunately, everyone made it out of this difficult situation unscathed.

“You are so unbelievably lucky, and way too close for comfort to the car in front,” one of the top comments from /u/MyLiminalLife read, a comment echoed by many in the thread.

Under Florida Statute §316.085, a driver who stops in a green light lane to attempt an unsafe lane change may be cited for an improper lane change, which typically results in a $65–$300 fine and 3 points on their driving record. Accumulating 12 points within 12 months can lead to a 30-day license suspension.
