This F-150 driver deemed it necessary to drive into oncoming traffic, all because the driver in front of them didn’t accelerate and beat the red.
What do you do if a driver in front of you doesn’t give it the gas on a yellow light and instead stops?
Well, if you’re this doofus, you throw a tantrum, swerve around them, and head through the red light into a gap of traffic going the opposite way, instead.
This Magnum Opus from Whatcom County comes courtesy of Redditor /u/BrianLipke, who shared the dashcam video to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit earlier last week.
Check out his dashcam video below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of Birch St. and Lakeway Dr. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is on Birch St. following a driver in a black Ford F-150 and a Mini Cooper.
The signal up ahead shows yellow, which, to everyone else, means slow and prepare to come to a stop, which the driver in the Mini Cooper does exactly, arriving at the limit line just as it turns red.
The F-150 driver clearly isn’t used to this, as evidenced by following the Mini Cooper way too close and, when forced to come to an emergency stop to avoid rear-ending the Cooper, the F-150 driver opts to throw a tantrum and pull a ticketable maneuver instead.
First, they swerve around the Cooper into the turn lane and, instead of stopping, brute forces their way into the intersection and into a lane for traffic headed the other way.
Yeah, totally illegal.
“Most likely: Truck driver confused and irrationally angry at someone stopping instead of gunning it for the yellow combined with some really awful driving habits and impulse control,” one of the top comments from /u/Cerus reads in reply to another commenter asking “What the f*** even was that?”
“It’s like some people thought Crazy Taxi was the driving manual,” /u/afleetingmoment humously adds.
“They’re more important, so they can run red lights on the wrong side of the road,” /u/StackThePads33 sarcastically quips.
In Washington State, running a red light is a traffic infraction under RCW 46.61.050, typically resulting in a fine of $48 before all the fees. If the violation involves entering opposing traffic, it may be considered a more serious offense, potentially leading to higher fines and increased penalties. (Washington Courts)
