This Tesla driver entered this busy LA intersection almost 10 seconds after their light turned red.

LA Commuter and Redditor /u/BlurryTree shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in November (Nov 6, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a Tesla driver entering this intersection on a deep, deep red, causing them to collide with an innocent driver with the right of way.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

[OC] White Tesla meets red light. 2 of hearts I guess.

The incident happened at the intersection of College St. and N Broadway (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is stopped at the aforementioned intersection waiting for his turn to cross.

We see traffic on College St get the red light.

If you start counting, OP gets the green light after 6 seconds, but, like all defensive drivers, OP pauses and enters 3 seconds later.

Good thing he paused as a driver likely not paying attention in a white Tesla Model Y runs the red right in front of him.

Unfortunately, a driver in a Kia Sportage next to him couldn’t see the approaching Tesla as well as OP, proceeds forward, and gets clipped and sideswiped by the Tesla.

“Luckily, I noticed them coming a moment after I started moving. I think the black car wasn’t able to see the Tesla in time because I was half a car length ahead, obscuring their view. What is crazy to me is that the light is red in all directions for a good 5ish seconds before I had the green. Tesla driver was clearly not paying any kind of attention,” OP clarified.

“For any interested, I parked right after the video ended and walked over to the accident. All parties involved now have the footage.”

In California, running a red light under California Vehicle Code 21453 generally results in a base fine of about $100 (which, after fees and surcharges, jumps up to nearly $600 total) and the assignment of one point on your driver’s record. (Southwest Legal)

If you are found at fault for a collision that you contributed to or caused, the California Department of Motor Vehicles will typically add one negligent‑operator point to your record. (Cutter Law P.C.)
