Quick thinking and a lightning reaction time saved this dashcam owner from a certain head-on collision.

Coweta County commuter and Redditor /u/ReliableEyeball shared head-shaking dashcam footage from earlier this month (Dec 22, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, showing an insane driver attempting an overtaking maneuver going uphill, against traffic, and over double solid yellow lines.

As the dashcam shows, if it wasn’t for OP’s quick thinking and reflexes, it would’ve been one gnarly head-on collision.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened on Highway 29 just after the intersection with State Route 154 (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is driving on the 29 in what looks like pre-dawn hours, despite what time the dashcam is showing.

Just as he crests one of this route’s many undulations, he suddenly sees two sets of headlights next to each other headed straight for him.

Some crazy person decided to overtake without having a clear view of the upcoming traffic.

OP has to essentially make a 50/50 decision to slam on his brakes or thread the needle between the two sets of headlights.

OP positions their car smack dab in the middle of the two approaching vehicles and, thankfully, the idiot doing the overtake scoots towards the shoulder, allowing all 3 to pass each other with inches to spare on either side.

OP survives the ordeal and slows a bit to take it all in.

“Do you need me to start a GoFundMe for your dry cleaning/ upholstery cleaning bill?” the top comment from /u/SlightDish31 hilariously reads.

“Gotta love how they double down and almost force YOU into oncoming traffic, instead of them risking getting in an accident,” /u/MONSTERBEARMAN added.

“In the DARK,” /u/sunfries added, pointing out something obvious but worth reiterating.

In Georgia, a dangerous overtake against oncoming traffic would typically be cited as improper passing, which is a 3-point offense on your driver’s license under the state’s point system. (Georgia Department of Driver Services)

If the conduct is extreme and charged as reckless driving instead, that carries 4 points and fines of up to $1,000 (and possibly jail time), on top of higher insurance costs and other consequences. (georgiacriminaldefense.com)

Note: Exact fines vary by court/local jurisdiction.
