This Jeep Cherokee owner presumably left his ride in gear, causing it to accidently move on its own towards traffic.
Arturo Martinez, owner of Turo’s Tacos, is feeling relieved after saving his Jeep Grand Cherokee from causing an accident on Bancroft Ave. earlier last week (Jan 21, 2026). An accidental button press of his remote start system with his Jeep still in gear caused his Jeep to move on its own.
Martinez shared a security video of the Jeep Cherokee’s solo wild ride, which nearly turned into one messy accident, on his social media.
Check out his Instagram video embedded below.
The incident occurred in the 10,000 block of Bancroft Avenue in East Oakland, in the parking lot of Turo’s Tacos.
As the security camera footage shows, Martinez backed in his Jeep with the front of the Cherokee facing the driveway onto Bancroft.
Normally, this is no issue; however, with a remote start and manual transmission, remote start users know not to keep their vehicles in gear, something Martinez apparently forgot.
Thankfully, first gear goes really slow, and Martinez was fleet-footed enough to run into his Cherokee and slam on the brakes before it barrelled into a business across the street.
“Bro ain’t never run that fast,” the top comment from @tbss_daveed reads.
“Bro turned and said, ‘That looks like my Jeep!,” @nandos_filmz added.
“Gotta be careful with those remote start stick shift cars. Almost ran my cousin’s Civic into my garage door once. I remote started instead of popping the trunk 😂😂,”@slow_zo6 shared.
If you see Martinez driving into his usual parking spot front-first from now on, now you know why.
