This driver couldn’t be bothered with making a left and hitting a U-turn at the next street. They had to risk a near crash, instead.
King County driver and Redditor /u/HorseBagel shared headshaking dashcam footage from this busy Burien intersection from earlier in February (Feb 2, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an impatient driver turn reckless, gunning it from a left turn lane, into opposing traffic, to then cut in and go straight, instead.
Check out the risky, unnecessary maneuver below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of SW 148th St. and 1st Ave. S (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed eastbound on 148th towards the 509.
Before he gets the green light, a driver in a Toyota Camry next to them in the left turn lane can be seen creeping past the limit line as if they’re going for the hole shot.
When the light turns green, the inevitable happens, and the Camry driver shoots out into opposing traffic, cuts in front of OP, and keeps heading left towards the entrance to 509 South.
If they just turned left, they’d easily come up to a U-turn to reroute no more than a quarter mile away.
Thankfully, nothing comes of their reckless move.
“The adult me says let it go, not worth it. The not-so-secret boy racer in me says show him what GR badge means on a Corolla,” the top comment from /u/clquake reads.
“Patience seems to be a lost virtue for a lot of people,” /u/Cephrael37 added.
“I know this intersection. A little further on, it dumps into A) SeaTac airport, B) I-5 and C) I-405. Both of the thru lanes probably had a long line, it’s a very busy intersection. He did that on purpose from the beginning, sneak up in the left turn lane, get a jump on probably a dozen cars,” local /u/Remo_253 sahred.
In Burien, WA (and statewide), going straight from a lane marked or intended only for left turns would typically be cited as improper lane usage under Washington’s rules of the road (RCW 46.61.140), which is treated as a traffic infraction with a base fine generally around $37–$48 plus court costs. (Law Files)
Such an infraction usually adds points to your driving record (assessed under the same statute as other rules‑of‑the‑road violations), which can affect insurance and license status if multiple infractions accumulate. (Law Files)
