This right-on-red turner swung a little too wide into a lane with the right of way and took their sweet time doing it, a recipe for disaster.

Pulaski County-area driver and Redditor /u/thehattedllama shared concerning dashcam footage from this busy intersection earlier last week (Mar 1, 2026), showing an inattentive driver swinging a little too wide, making their right-on-red, almost causing a rear-end collision with a fast-approaching dashcam owner.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Mineral Ave. and Santa Fe Dr. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed northbound on Santa Fe. Dr towards the aforementioned intersection.

Noteworthy is that traffic is moving relatively quickly here, as it is on the CanAm Highway, at 50 MPH.

50 MPH speed limit sign. Visible.

Up ahead, a right-on-red turner takes their opportunity to turn; however, does so in all the wrong ways by swinging a little too wide to the left, encroaching on drivers in the two leftmost lanes, and not getting up to speed fast enough.

While worn away over the years, turners do have their own dedicated turn lane for about 1/8th mile, visible here from 2018.

Original turn lane markings are still visible.

OP has to emergency brake to avoid rear-ending them, thankfully slowing in time.

As such, it would behoove turners at this particular location to hug the curb as best they can and to get up to speed ASAP.

As for the city, it would go a long way to repaint the lines.

“I’ll never understand why or how some people can see traffic clear as day, and not only pull out in front, but do so slow as s***,” the top comment from /u/HadalAvoider reads.

“They’re building some weird convoluted way to make left turns around there, won’t be able to just turn left out of Aspen Grove onto Mineral. I fail to see how it won’t make that intersection worse,” local /u/b34tn1k added.

“To be fair, as soon as I saw forward movement from them, I’m braking, and there was enough time for that, but still annoying,” /u/kaielias proactively suggested.

In Colorado, you can turn right on red unless posted otherwise, but you must come to a complete stop and yield to through traffic. If you encroach into straight-moving lanes and interfere with vehicles that have the right of way, you’ll likely get cited for failure to yield (4 points) or possibly careless driving (4 points). Fines typically range from about $70 to $150 plus surcharges, but careless driving can cost more depending on the situation.
