A driver in a KIA Sportage resorted to hit-and-run after impatience got the best of them waiting for a train at Hwy 90 and University.

Fort Bend County-area driver and Redditor /u/RuthlessNutellaa shared headshaking dashcam footage from this busy Sugar Land intersection from earlier in March (Mar 4, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a Kia driver rear-ending this dashcam owner and, instead of sticking around, jumping a median and hit-and-running instead.

Check out the hare-brained chain of events in the video embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened northbound on Hwy 90 Alt and University Ave. (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed northbound on Highway 90, stopped at the aforementioned intersection, waiting to turn left onto University.

Traffic is stopped as a freight train is seen passing.

Not wanting to wait, a driver in a Kia Sportage (License Plate WYL5980) can be seen reversing, not realizing OP is behind them, and rear-ending OP at a relatively low speed.

“Best guess is they were aiming to jump the median to flip a U-turn, and backed up for headroom without realizing and/or caring that there was someone behind them,” /u/New_Plate_1096 clarified in the comments.

Regardless, an accident is an accident and, at that point, drivers should pull over at a safe location to, if need be, exchange insurance information.

This Kia Sportage driver decided to shirk responsibility instead and can be seen hopping the concrete median before hit-and-running.

OP doesn’t mention if he’s pursuing damages via his insurance or further charges, but with a clear view of the plates and video evidence, he could if he wanted to.

“I think that’s taking the arrow sign a little too literally,” /u/grand_total humorsly added.

In Sugar Land, TX, hit-and-run drivers can face up to $2,000 in fines and 2–6 points on their license. Leaving the scene can also bring jail time and insurance headaches.
