A red light runner drove into this busy intersection, causing an accident. Surprisingly, they admitted fault.
Harris County commuter and Redditor /u/Mr10Crossing shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in March (Mar 5, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the unfortunate moment a distracted driver in a Honda CR-V ran a red light, smashing into the side of OP’s car and ruining their morning, to say the least.
Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of Red Bluff Rd. & Genoa Red Bluff Rd (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed northbound in the 8200 block of Red Bluff Rd, stopped at the aforementioned intersection.
OP gets the green light and starts to cross.
Well within the green light and several seconds into the red light for cross traffic, a driver in a black Honda CR-V appears to OP’s left, clearly distracted and unaware they’re facing a red.
OP gets hit, hard, sending them careening to the grassy center median before coming to a stop.
The sound of OP’s dashcam can be heard storing the footage for future use.
I never spoke to the other driver. I was in shock for a good 10 minutes since this was my first major accident. He tried to ask if I was ok while waiting in my car for the police to arrive, but I kind of ignored him. I feel kinda bad for doing that lol. The police told me he admitted fault and was given a citation,” OP replied to a comment asking what they said.
“That was a full 5 seconds after your light turned green. Likely had head stuck in the phone,” one of the top comments from /u/StevenG2757 reads.
In Harris County, running a red light is typically cited under Texas Transportation Code §544.007 and can carry a fine of up to about $200 in most cases.
Texas doesn’t use a statewide driver’s license point system anymore, but the violation will still appear on your record and can raise insurance rates. If the red-light violation causes a crash, additional citations like failure to control speed or reckless driving may be added, which can increase fines and legal consequences. 🚦
