This doofus showed child-like ignorance, shown on dashcam, shrugging her shoulders, insisting she wasn’t going to move, but was then forced to.
Bethesda commuter and Redditor /u/aharris17171717 shared infuriating dashcam footage from downtown from earlier in April (Apr 2, 2026) to the /r/ConvenientCop subreddit showing an ignorant driver who, even after seeing OP backing into a space, busts an illegal U-turn to steal their spot, anyway.
Check out the way she just shrugs her shoulders at OP in the video below, including the eventual moment a cop had to be flagged down to get her to move, with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened along Bethesda Ave next to the Apple Store (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is driving down Bethesda Ave on his lunch break, trying to snag a parking spot.
He spots one next to the Apple Store and begins to back into it.
Suddenly, a driver in a silver Nissan Versa can be seen making a U-turn and seems to be headed into OP’s spot that he was clearly signaling/backing into.
” I thought they were just doing a 3-point turn, but then she stole the spot and refused to move. I also had my indicator on really EARLY,” OP clarified in his caption.
“Yes, she has her wheels pointed to the spot as I drive past to back in, but no turn signal until she’s already making the illegal U-turn into the spot. If she had signaled earlier, I would have known she was going for it. (She also curbed the heck out of her wheel, making that turn in.”
The driver in the Versa can be seen refusing to move, shrugging her shoulders at OP in clear ignorance despite 100% being in the wrong.

Thankfully, a Bethesda police officer was nearby, doling out swift justice and getting her to move.
“I found myself so angry over this encounter and flagged down a cop who was just ahead. He made her move when I mentioned I had a dash cam. I think he threatened her with a ticket for no front plate (MD), and she moved.”
“The way she just keeps shrugging her shoulders after she pulled in pisses me off,” one of the top comments from /u/Snarky75 reads.
“That would have made my day for sure,” /u/Galgoman added, referencing the police finally showing up.
In Maryland, making an illegal U-turn can carry a fine of about $90–$110 and may add 1–2 points to your driving record. While there’s no specific law for “stealing” a parking spot, interfering with another driver’s vehicle could be considered obstruction or aggressive driving, which officers could ticket depending on the situation. Always call the cops if someone refuses to yield while you’re legally backing into a spot—dashcam evidence helps.
Coincidentally, OP and the lady who attempted to steal his spot were both headed to the same spot shortly after.
“I’m not sure why this pissed me off so much, but I walked away from the experience knowing how I should handle it differently next time. It’s just not worth the trouble. People are gonna be rude, and it’s not worth ruining my mood over. I approached her after this (we both were coincidentally going to Cava) and apologized. We agreed it was a misunderstanding and we could have both handled it better.”
