This Tesla driver went the wrong way and stubbornly kept going because they’re always right.
Orange County-area driver and Redditor /u/OK-Subjet-9539 shared headshaking dashcam footage from his local Costco from earlier at the end of April (Apr 30, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a Tesla driver refusing to follow the general rules of parking lot driving, insisting on going against the flow of traffic.
Check out their bonehead move below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the Fullerton Costco off of Harbor (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is making his way through the Costco parking lot, trying to find a parking space.
As he turns left, going the correct direction, a driver in a Tesla can be seen stopped, pointed against traffic, signaling, convinced they’re not 100 % in the wrong.
Instead of doing the right thing, backing up, and slotting into the right way of traffic, with millimeters to spare in between OP and the curb, the Tesla driver insists on squeezing through.
Thankfully, they do not hit, likely aided by their car’s external camera system, but how unnecessary.
“I always park way back at Costco, would rather walk a bit than all the stress with parking and people scratching my car,” the top comment from /u/PlumpyDragon reads.
“The Fullerton Costco parking lot is by far the worst I’ve been to in my opinion,” local /u/Reddit_User2PointOh added.
“Yeah, no thanks, this is why I do pickup or go at weird times. It’s always super busy on weekends, especially evenings,” /u/BigGranny000 shared.
In California, driving the wrong way in a Costco parking lot typically does not automatically add DMV points, because most parking lots are treated as private property and many minor lane violations there aren’t point-assessed. You can still get a ticket under basic vehicle code rules if an officer chooses to cite it, and fines can land in the $200–$400+ range after fees, depending on the violation used.
However, if the behavior is aggressive or dangerous enough to be charged as reckless driving (VC 23103), that would carry 2 points on your driving record and significantly higher penalties.
Contrary to popular belief. A private parking lot doesn’t give you immunity. If it’s open to the public and you’re driving there, California law can still follow you in.
