Genius in his Chevrolet Silverado flipped drivers off, kicking up rocks, as he passed on the emergency shoulder.

Oklahoma County driver and Redditor /u/Monstera667 shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in June (June 9, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing this piece of work passing drivers on I-35/US-77 using the emergency shoulder despite a wide open fast lane for him to use.

Check out the dashcam footage below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident occurred on I-35/US-77 in the Edmond area, just before Exit 146 (Exact location on Google Maps linked here).

As the dashcam shows, OP is driving northbound on I-35 towards Guthrie.

About half a mile from the aforementioned exit, a driver in a tan Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra with a camper top drives past him at 70+ MPH using the emergency shoulder.

Traffic in the passing lane is moving along, so it’s not like there was much traffic blocking him from using said lane.

To top it all off, he’s flipping everyone off, especially a driver in a white Ford Transit work van who seemed to be hugging the inside shoulder awfully close, on purpose to block him.

The driver “pulls off” his hare-brained move before re-joining lane #1.

“While the passing lane is wide open and moving at a reasonable pace. lol,” the top comment from /u/MadGross reads.

“Their stupidity will catch up with them. Maybe not today, but eventually, and it will hurt,” hoped /u/Oxeneer666.

“This is an epidemic in MA, people driving in the breakdown lane all the time like it’s a regular f***ing lane. Any time there is even the slightest backup, some coc*wobble starts it up, and tons of people follow him,” /u/crankbot2000 shared.

In Oklahoma, using the emergency shoulder to pass is illegal because the shoulder isn’t considered a travel lane.

The penalty depends on how it’s cited (often improper or unsafe passing / careless driving), but you’re typically looking at a traffic fine that can range roughly from around $100 to a few hundred dollars once court costs are added.

It can also come with points on your license (often around 2 points if treated as a moving violation), which can add up toward suspension if you do it repeatedly.
