This driver’s dashcam caught them texting while driving, which contributed to what happened next, them rear-ending a car stopped in front of them.
Seattle-area driver and Redditor /u/Kefizzle shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in July (July 11, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing what happened when this distracted driver, in the habit of using his smartphone behind the wheel, got distracted himself with the task at hand, driving, and ended up rear-ending the car in front of them.

The incident happened along Lake City Way NE/ WA-522 just after the intersection with NE 80th St. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
The first minute is evidence, supposedly showing the driver behind OP in a blue Honda CR-V looking down at their smartphone while driving.
After they turn onto Lake City Way from NE 80th, they come to a stop.
Then, as OP lets off the gas to go, the driver in the blue CR-V behind them assumes drivers in front of them are going too, when such is not the case.
A driver in a dark colored Honda Accord is still stopped in front of them.
The Honda CR-V driver ends up rear-ending them, hard enough to cause thousands of dollars in damage.

In Seattle, a driver who rear-ends another vehicle due to distracted driving will typically be cited for offenses such as following too closely, inattentive driving, or using a handheld device, depending on the circumstances. A following-too-closely citation carries a total fine of about $145, while a handheld-device distracted driving ticket is $145 for a first offense; there is no DMV points system in Washington, but moving violations are recorded on your driving record and can increase insurance rates.
