This driver in a Lincoln SUV came within inches of getting t-boned, all for not looking over their shoulder.
Will County-area driver and Redditor /u/DJ_YTLOL shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in July (July 14, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, showing the shocking moment a driver in a Lincoln SUV pulled into a turning lane without looking properly and came within inches of getting sideswiped, bad, by a BMW driver just trying to get through.

The incident happened in the 9600 block of the Lincoln Highway before the intersection with La Grange Rd (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is in the middle lane, pointed east on the Lincoln Highway, ready to cross La Grange.
In front of him is a driver in a black Lincoln MKX who suddenly gets the bright idea to get into one of two left-turn lanes, except they do it in the worst way possible.
They signal and likely, perhaps only briefly, check their side mirrors, but don’t look over their shoulder.
Fast approaching and with the right of way is a driver in a BMW 8-series sedan.
The Lincoln driver goes anyway and doesn’t see the BMW.
Thankfully, that driver is paying attention, ready to utilize the quick steering abilities of his super sedan, and is able to dodge the Lincoln MKX with cat-like reflexes.
What looks like just six inches separated both of them from hitting.
