A driver in a Jeep Wrangler, facing an extremely red, red light. runs it anyway. Comes within a couple of feet of getting rear-ended hard.
Pensacola-area driver and Redditor /u/Apjp23 shared headshaking dashcam footage from when their husband was driving from earlier in July (July 27, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in a Jeep Wrangler making the insane decision to run a deeply red, red light, causing them to come within a couple of feet of getting rear-ended hard.
Check out the near-miss below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of W Fairfield Dr (FL-295) and Hollywood Ave. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP’s husband is driving along at speed on FL-295.
Coming off a slight curve, the speed limit is around 40 MPH.
As he approaches the intersection, cross traffic is obviously facing a red.
That does not stop this driver in a Jeep Wrangler from creeping out into the intersection to turn left, anyway.
OP’s husband slams on the emergency brakes and lays on the horn.
Thankfully, the driver in the Wrangler gets the hint and swerves out of the way, giving OP’s husband some breathing room to maneuver out of the way if need be.
The red light runner’s Wrangler almost flips, overcorrecting, but thankfully they adjust just enough to not do that.
OP’s husband sneaks past, and everyone escapes the near miss unscathed.
“That is such a massively far distance to travel for a red light runner. Like who sees that intersection and thinks Yeah for sure, I’ll just Leroy Jenkins this; it will be fine. Surely nobody could be coming from that direction in the next three to four fiscal minutes,” the top comment from /u/BarnyardSchneef reads.
“The one time they actually turn left into the left lane too. He came so close to flipping,” /u/These-Buy-4898 added.
“Your husband’s reaction time was crazy good. He slowed down so damn quick. Thankfully the dumba** also veered away and out. I’d hope he learned his lesson about running reds, but… he’s a Jeep owner. He’ll do it again tomorrow. 😅,” /u/Rochy95 humoursly added.
In Pensacola, FL (Escambia County), running a red light is typically treated as a traffic infraction and can result in 4 points being assessed on your Florida driver license.
The base fine is generally around $166 (higher depending on location and circumstances), and violations caught by a law enforcement officer may also include court costs and other fees.
If the violation results in a crash, additional charges or penalties may apply depending on the circumstances.
