This goofball driver on I-66 brought the entire interstate to a standstill just so they didn’t miss the entrance to an Express Lane.
Fairfax County-area driver and Redditor /u/AlmCode shared truly headshaking dashcam footage from earlier this August (Aug 20, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a goofball of a driver coming to a complete stop on the interstate so they didn’t miss the entrance to an express lane.

The incident happened on I-66 between the border of Vienna and Fairfax just before the exits 64A and 64B towards Tysons/Baltimore and Alexandria/Richmond via I-495/Capital Beltway (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is headed eastbound on I-66 towards Arlington.
In the early part of the clip, keen eyes will notice traffic slowing in Lane #3.
A driver in a Toyota Corolla is signaling, brute-forcing their way towards the entrance to the Express Lane.
The driver gets their way, crawling towards and through the gore zone of the express lane with drivers doing their best to swerve out of the way to avoid rear-ending the goofball of a driver.
While initially not seen and how dangerous a maneuver it was aside, that driver also likely started a traffic slowdown that will continue long after this clip ended.
Thankfully, everyone, besides that driver, was paying attention, everyone escaping unscathed, no accident occurring.

In Virginia, deliberately coming to a near-stop on a busy interstate to enter an Express Lane could violate §46.2-888, which prohibits stopping in a way that impedes or endangers traffic. (Virginia Law) In Fairfax County, the listed fine for this violation is $87, and it is generally not a points offense. (Fairfax County) If the conduct rises to reckless driving, however, it could mean 6 demerit points and a substantially higher penalty.
