This genius followed his red light running buddy and earned himself a big fat ticket.

Douglas County-area driver and Redditor /u/Pilot_Red shared a case of instant karma via Convenient Cop from earlier in August (Aug 9, 2026) to the /r/ConvenientCop subreddit showing a pair of drivers running a red light at this US-59 intersection with one of them earning themselves one big, fat ticket.

Check out how it all played out below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened along US-59 at the intersection of 2nd St. and Locust St. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed northbound on US-59 when he comes to a stop at the aforementioned intersection.

Typically, two drivers in their pickups come blazing past, both opting to accelerate towards a yellow light instead of preparing to stop.

They were so concentrated on breaking the rules of the road that they didn’t notice a police officer waiting to turn going the other way.

The inevitable happens: the police officer flips a U and eventually pulls over one of the two red light runners.

“White truck really lucked out. He was fully behind the lines when the light turned red, and had the black truck not gone, willing to bet the cop would have gone after him, too,” the top comment from /u/ZiggoCiP points out.

“The exclamation at seeing the cop turn around was fantastic,” /u/JBalloonist added.

“It made my day,” OP replied.

In Lawrence, Kansas, running a red light is $75, plus the $86 court cost, making the estimated total $161. (sos.ks.gov) It carries 3 points on a Kansas driving record.
