This driver thought they could pass traffic using the emergency breakdown lane, but this Convenient Cop was having none of it.
Mercer County-area driver and Redditor /u/9009RPM shared a case of Convenient Cop from earlier last week (Aug 26, 2026) to the /r/ConvenientCop subreddit showing a driver, who thought they were being slick by using the emergency shoulder, getting pulled over almost immediatly by New Jersey’s finest.

In New Jersey, using the breakdown lane as a travel lane would typically be charged as improper passing on the right/off roadway (N.J.S.A. 39:4-85), carrying 4 points. (NJ.gov) The fine depends on the court’s assessment, but the base statutory fine is generally $50–$200, before court costs and fees.
