Not like he was going to check his side mirrors, anyway, but a last-second lane change almost ended in disaster for this impatient driver.

Los Angeles-area driver and Redditor /u/3veryonepasses shared head-shaking dashcam footage from the 605 from earlier in September (Sept 22, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, showing a doofus brute-forcing a lane change without yielding properly (no mirror check), almost causing them to get rear-ended as OP fast approached.

Check out the close call below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened on the 605 as traffic backed up on the 105 West Exit (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed north on the 605 near Exit 9A onto Rosecrans Ave.

On one of the two lanes headed towards 105 West, traffic can be seen backed up in the leftmost lane.

Driving along at nearly 50 MPH next to stopped traffic, the speed differential between the two lanes made for a dangerous situation.

Fed up with slow traffic in front of him in the leftmost lane, a driver in a White GMC Sierra, without warning, changes lanes in front of OP.

OP is forced to slow from nearly 60 MPH and swerve to the left to avoid rear-ending the Sierra.

Thankfully, they don’t make contact, and both parties escape the unnecessarily risky situation unscathed.

“I think he did check his mirrors — he just wanted to get in front of you…,” the top comment from u//jobywalker reads.

“Looks like traffic ahead of him slowed, and he wasn’t paying attention. So, he decided to make it the OP’s problem…,” /u/idontremembermyoldus replied.

“For the idiots in the comments: OP was going 51, slowed down to 45 due to the car in front of him braking as he merged over, then back to 51 mph before the white truck cut him off. OP was not speeding,” /u/Cheap_Lingonberry 433 pointed out.

In California, a dangerous lane change where the driver moves into another lane without first ensuring it can be done safely is generally a violation of CVC § 22107. The typical total fine is about $238–$490, depending on local assessments, and it carries 1 DMV point.
