This doofus made the hare-brained decision to run a red light at the last second and paid the price, getting clipped and causing thousands in damage.

Douglas County-area driver and Redditor /u/AeroChase shared head-shaking dashcam footage from earlier this week (Oct 21, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing this driver in their Mercedes SUV trying to turn on a fresh red light, only to get into an accident that will cost them thousands.

Here’s how it played out below, with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of S Twenty Mile Rd. and Pavilion Dr (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed out of this local shopping center with a Kohl’s, Michaels, and Chili’s out onto Twenty Mile Rd.

Drivers in front of him can be seen completing their left turn into the parking lot.

Keen eyes will notice that, by the time a grey Kia Optima at three seconds completes its turn, cross traffic already has the green light.

A driver in a white 2010s Mercedes M-Class can be seen coming up to the left-turn lane, seeing a gap despite it already being red, hesitating, and deciding to run the red.

They ran it too late as cross traffic starts to go just as they start to turn, and a driver in a black Escalade in the rightmost lane clips the rear of the Mercedes, damaging both SUVs and sending pieces of taillight flying everywhere.

If this is handled by insurance, that’s easily thousands in damage to both vehicles.

” I provided the video to both drivers. Everyone was fine,” OP clarified in the comments.

“Two idiots. The driver of the black SUV is blind af and has zero defensive driving abilities. Although they weren’t in the wrong, they could have very easily avoided the collision by simply paying attention and reacting accordingly,” one of the top comments from /u/HipToTheWorldsBS reads.

“Yes, idiot in the Mercedes, but if I see someone being an idiot, I’m not going to drive into them. That would make me an idiot as well,” /u/Bada**BokoblinPsycho added.

For a standard red-light violation, the penalty is typically a $110 fine and 4 demerit points added to your driving record. However, because running the light resulted in a collision, they can possibly face more severe charges, such as careless driving, which carries a baseline of 4 demerit points and higher court-determined fines, or up to 12 points if the accident caused serious bodily injury. In the Town of Parker, your case will likely require a mandatory court appearance where final costs and penalties are adjusted based on the severity of the crash.
