This doofus ran a super late red, a good four seconds after turning.

Fairfax County-area driver and Redditor /u/feldre shared head-shakingly hilarious dashcam footage from this busy Herndon T-intersection from earlier in October (Oct 14, 226) to the /r/ConvenientCop subreddit showing a driver, approaching said intersection at full speed, and blowing a super late red as a cop waited to turn.

Here’s how it all played out below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of VA-286/Fairfax County Pkwy and New Dominion Pkwy (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As shown, OP is headed south on 286 towards 267.

The posted speed limit in this area is 50 MPH, and drivers are going at about that speed.

As OP approaches the aforementioned T-intersection, the lights are already yellow, then red.

The only driver in front of him doesn’t show any signs of slowing and blows through said intersection, likely going 55+ MPH several seconds after it already turned red.

I counted a good four seconds.

As their luck would have it, Herndon PD can be seen stopped, waiting to turn left; they saw the entire thing.

It’s easy picking for that cop, as we see their lights turn on to pull the offending driver over.

“That takes a special kind of stupid,” one of the top comments from /u/Sussler reads.

“I was literally going to say the exact same thing lol,” /u/Exsisting-Quote7936 replied.

“Well deserved,” /u/zzbear03 added.

If you are pulled over by a police officer in Herndon, VA, for running a red light, it is a traffic infraction carrying a fine of up to $350 (typically around $200) and 4 demerit points that stay on your Virginia DMV record for three years.

For a super late red light like this, an officer could alternatively charge you with reckless driving, a Class 1 misdemeanor that carries 6 demerit points and up to $2,500 in fines.
