A dump truck driver on Exit 34 to stay on 580 made an insane move from the rightmost lane, causing a rear-end accident.
Bay Area driver and Redditor /u/NuclearPenguinNL shared head-shaking dashcam footage from earlier this week (Oct 28, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in a dump truck making an insane move from the right lane of Exit 34, resulting in a rear-end accident.
Here’s what that looked like from OP’s dashcam below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at Exit 34 of the 238/580 interchange next to Castro Valley (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP stays in the right lanes of 580 to stay on 580 West towards Oakland.
In front of him is a driver in a dump truck in the rightmost lane.
It appears they may have come from Castro Valley Blvd, taking the 580 West on-ramp.
Perhaps, in a bid to take a shortcut onto 238 from this particular on-ramp, the dump truck driver makes an insane move and makes a multi-lane change across the gore point, towards 238.
They brute-force their way across; just before the Exit sign, however, their insane move causes drivers going the right way to emergency brake, with one pair of drivers getting into a rear-end collision with each other.
Had they rerouted, it would’ve added a whopping 1.9 miles, or less than 5 minutes, to their drive.

“What a jacka**. Hopefully someone reported this. His CDL needs to be revoked,” the top comment from /u/Chumbief reads.
“Wow, that was absolutely shi**y. We give licenses out like candy,” /u/backwardbu**plug added.
“”Bad drivers never miss their exit,” /u/Roadhog_is_my_waifu threw in.
Driving over a gore point in California can result in a base fine of about $238 and adds 1 point to your DMV driving record. If the maneuver causes an accident, you can also be cited for an unsafe lane change or reckless driving, adding another point and increasing your legal liability.
