These awesome German tuners showcased just how fast their MK2 Volkswagen Golf accelerates and technically it accelerates faster than a Bugatti Chiron.

If I told you that there’s a bog standard Volkswagen Golf out their that can truly accelerate faster than Buggati’s newest Chiron you probably wouldn’t believe me. But then if I told you that there’s video proof you’d probably be clamoring to watch the video for yourself. Well it’s absolutely true. According to the engineering masters of Germany’s Boba Motoring as reported by our good friends at AutoBild earlier today (Mar. 28, 2017) there is indeed a 1989 V.W. Golf that’s been terrorizing Germany’s streets and sweeping the interwebs with its ludicrous acceleration runs. Check out the video proof for yourself below!

Since Top Gear dropped their Bugatti Chiron acceleration teaser last week, tuners with arguably quicker cars have been matching up their speedos to see just how better their budget builds can compare. In the video Boba Motoring goes through a slew of victims in increasing power. First, a BMW with a V8, then a Lamborghini Aventador and Huracan,  then the Chiron. None can match the raw acceleration of Boba’s MK2. Finally Boba motoring “matches up against a 1600 HP Nissan GT-R and a Kawasaki Ninja H2R. Only the Kawasaki barely edges out the Golf towards the upper rev range.

So how can such a small car accelerate so fast? The philosophy is simple, wring as much power as you can from the engine while keeping the weight of the vehicle relatively low. Boba’s Volkswagen Golf only weighs 2,600 pounds but packs more than a dyno proven 1200 HP (1233 to be exact.)

According to the official build sheet this 1989 V.W. Golf starts out with a 2.0 L steel block from a Golf TDI. From there Boba Motoring slaps on a 70mm turbo that costs more than $2,000 and all the supporting modes to make sure that the motor doesn’t blow at a biblical 64 psi. Oh, and the’re running E85. Paired to the engine is a 6-speed sequential shift dog ring transmission.

0-60 MPH comes in a tick over 2.5 seconds and the quarter mile is gone in 8.7 seconds.

Without all the documentation and video proof backing up this crazy build we would’ve called foul right from the get go, but it does look to be all true. There is indeed at least one V.W. Golf made in 1989 that can out accelerate a Bugatti Chiron.
