Chevrolet introduced a Rally Sport Package for the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban but the Tahoe is definitely the one you want to pay attention to.

If you’ve wanted the utility and towing capacity of a Chevrolet Tahoe but the sporting credentials of something altogether, not an SUV, GM may have a solution for you. According to an official press release from GM they dropped earlier this week (Apr. 6, 2017) the newly introduced Rally Sport Truck package for Tahoe and Suburban adds a look suited for the street as well as performance to back that look up. This isn’t your run of the mill appearance package and will definitely get a few Dad’s shopping for either Suburban or Tahoe to take a second look at this particular options package. Check out a couple of press photos showcasing just how good this new RST package looks below.

Both Suburban and Tahoe will benefit from a brake upgrade and Borla exhaust with RST. Up front, you’ll see the distinctive red Brembo calipers attached to Duralife rotors. Underneath those Brembo calipers will be some bigger brake pads. GM says that this will increase thermal capacity of the system overall. The Borla exhaust system means a 28 percent improvement over stock which should translate to horsepower on the dyno.

Only optional on Tahoe with the RST package is GM’s well raved and reviewed Magnetic ride control, 6.2L V8 and 10L80 10-speed automatic transmission. That means 420 HP and 460 lb-ft to the rear wheels.  This places the Tahoe on par with Cayenne, Macan, and Durango/Cherokee territory. 0-60 MPH comes and goes in six seconds so that brake upgrade starts to make sense. Oh, and you can still tow up to 8,400 pounds.

Gone is all chrome trim and in its place, you get body-color grilles, and door handles. The grille, mirror caps, roof rails, window trim and all badging gets blacked out. RST gets special 22’s.

When you want to hustle, it is incredibly fast, with significantly higher levels of acceleration, braking and road-holding grip,” said Eric Stanczak, chief engineer for Chevrolet full-size trucks. “When you want to relax, it is very refined, with exceptional ride comfort and interior quietness.”

We can’t wait to see this RST package on either Tahoe or Suburban make its rounds of the journalist pool sooner rather than later. It’s always a riot to read the reviews and see the smiles on video reviewers faces when they take cars not meant to turn through twisting canyon roads.

No word on pricing but obviously expect the Tahoe RST package to cost thousands more thanks to that optional V8 engine and suspension. Well done GM, well done.
