Someone uploaded a video of his stripped K20 swapped Honda Civic hatch putting car lengths on a brand-new 2017 Honda Civic Type R.

If you’re one of the lucky few that snagged a 2017 Honda Civic Type R early, sorry but it looks like you’ve officially bought one of the slowest cars on the face of this earth thanks to this one video that’s been makings its rounds on the internet (if you haven’t guessed already, we’re being sarcastic.) @Roger_Og off of Instagram uploaded a video of his stripped out EG hatch “racing” a brand new 2017 Honda Civic Type R from a roll. As expected, the EG hatch jumps out to the lead with its all-motor engine banging off the rev limiter. Skip over the first picture in his post below to peep the video. Or click here.

Of course when IAmTaiBoogie first posted up the video on his Facebook page, with the caption “2017 Type R taking its first L” everyone lost their collective minds in defense or in total agreement. That video’s also been shared more than 2,000 times since.

The tail of the tape should be enough for anyone to draw their own conclusions. Any all-motor K-Swap worth its salt has power numbers hovering around 300 WHP (+ or – 20 HP.) Stuff that screamer of a motor in a chassis that weighs less than 2,000 pounds without a driver and it’s easy to see why the 5th gen Civic is still a popular car for tuners and why, with a powerful motor, it can put other high-priced builds to shame.

The 2017 Honda Civic Type R, on the other hand, has similar power numbers but is turbocharged. Nevertheless, some impromptu dyno runs of this K20C1 shows a linear power delivery. Estimates peg the Type R to come in at around 3,100 pounds.

The specific Honda Civic Type R in question? It’s just two days old. But don’t take my word for it as the owner’s tagged in the comments of that video. Even the owner himself says he’s still breaking in the motor. Although most modern cars and their break-in periods aren’t as tedious to carry out as cars of yore, it’s assumed that this Civic Type R won’t be hitting its rev 7K redline first the first hundred miles or so.

Where the Honda Civic Type R will shine is in the twisties. But as far as internet videos are concerned, if you beat a Type R in a straight-line, you better believe it’s for internet cred if it’s posted up.
