Yesterday, Elon Musk unveiled a revolutionary Tesla Semi and an all-new Roadster 2.0.

People are waking up to a different EV car world, one where trucks can platoon together on the highway after “talking” to each other and where roadsters can hit 60 MPH in under two seconds. Earlier yesterday, (Nov 17, 2017) Elon Musk took the wraps off his second generation Tesla Roadster, a roadster so fast and capable that it’s got a lot of fans of the brand hankering for a pre-order. Check out a couple of images of this roadster below as well as a few videos showcasing just how fast this car can launch below.

First, let’s get the specs out of the way.

  • 0-60 MPH- 1.9 sec
  • 0-100 MPH- 4.2 sec
  • Acceleration 1/4 mile- 8.8 sec
  • Top Speed- 250 MPH
  • Wheel torque- 7,375 lb-ft
  • Range- 620 miles
  • Seating- 4+ trunk

Performance at this price will come at a premium as the initial MSRP is $200,000. Like Teslas before, there is an owners referral program where Tesla referrers can potentially score a free one if they wrangle their friends into some Model S’s, X’s, or 3’s.

For an additional $50,000, you can get to the front of the line and reserve a Founder’s Series model for $250,000 which will draw from technologies accumulated three years before they actually start building these roadsters.

Two things that are worth mentioning, one is the range and the other is its incredible speed.

Even though the Tesla Model S can only go a little over 300 miles on a single charge, Tesla imbued twice the range and then some for their roadster. My guess is that Tesla has somewhat improved on the battery cell technology and simply stuffed the Roadster with that much more batteries, probably twice as much. Theoretically, as battery technology improves over the years before production, that battery pack can get smaller with little change to the characteristics of the roadster, besides a lighter weight and better performance.

Pound for pound, there is no other platform on earth that can now beat electric cars. Sure, if you’re talking about nitromethane belching race cars four-wide at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, those can hit 60 MPH in less than .8 secs, but that’s not as efficient. The acceleration is so violent on this roadster that I reckon some owners may have to hit the gym just to get their necks used to the G-forces if they’re hitting that acceleration often.

It’s a great time for electric cars and this roadster is just one of many models to come that says EV’s all don’t have to be technical, they can be a riot to drive as well.
