After one redditor became fed up with how many people complained that the 3rd gen Toyota MR2 had little trunk space, he defied them all with how much he brings to a track event on the daily.

A third generation MR2 is known for being fun to drive, tossable, and easy on the budget. Trunk space is definitely not on that list. But according to one Redditor and his post on /r/cars earlier yesterday (Dec. 13, 2017) he assures you that not only is the MR2 a competent track car, it has more than enough room to haul your stuff. Check out this masterful display of Tetris skills in real life for yourself below.

MR2 Packing

I usually get surprised comments at the track when they see my pile of stuff and no truck/trailer. So I figured I’d fill a bit more of the empty space and take some pics.

In the photos above, he’s listed literally everything he brings with him to a typical track day. That includes,

  • 4 wheels and tires
  • 2 helmets,
  • 1 backpack,
  • 1 laptop,
  • 1 full jack,
  • 2 rotors,
  • 1 battery charger,
  • 1 sleeping bag,
  • 1 duffle bag,
  • 2 tool bags
  • 1 roadside bag,
  • 4 jack stands,
  • 1 bungee cord container, a drill,
  • 3X5L oil jugs,
  • 1 camping chair,
  • 1 big umbrella,
  • driving shoes,
  • 1 tire tote box

Even for someone with a four-door sedan who likes to boast how much he can fit and haul in a pinch, this is a pretty impressive list.

A quick google search reveals that the rear trunk space in an MR2 is pretty much non-exsistent coming in at 1.9 cu ft. And according to his photos, it looks like he uses every one of those cubic feet to the fullest. Being an MR car means that normally wear the trunk would be, there’s an engine, so Toyota has provided a little storage space up front if you could even call it that.

With that space filled, it looks like he’s stuffed seemingly every crevice and open space with something. It probably helps that he has no passenger along for the ride.

As far as I can tell, that’s one less excuse to have when someone asks why I don’t track my car more often. Compared to this guy, my Civic sedan has tons of space.
