The Aston Martin Vulcan isn’t supposed to be road legal but this cracking team in the UK made one anyway.

The Aston Martin Vulcan is truly a special car where only a handful is being made but it has one unfortunate catch, it’s not road legal. But, according to the RML group on their Facebook video they posted up earlier today (Dec. 20, 2017) if you’ve got enough expertise, knowledge, and courage to expertly hack up a Vulcan, you can get this Aston Martin racecar for the streets to be road legal. Check out a photo of the Vulcan before it was worked on and a photo of the Vulcan on the road in its street-legal status below.

Earlier this year, there were a couple of reports swirling around that Aston Martin was working with an outside company to, at the approval of the owner, make approved Vulcans into street-legal status. According to this Reddit thread that popped up earlier today as well, there is quite an extensive process that must be gone through to make sure that any unique, one-off car can safely be driven on UK roads (and presumably other roads in Europe at least.)

Dubbed the IVA test, there are 60 sections with presumable details on each section of what must be done specifically, that makes a car street legal.

According to the walkaround video from RML group, there are some significant changes made that you can easily catch at first glance. The most obvious change is in the headlights. The original Vulcan had iconic headlights placed down low but this road legal one has the lights on the hood. Indicators, once absent on the racecar Vulcan, are now attached to the wing. And a quick look into the interior shows the original seat from Aston Martin has been swapped for a more standard looking race bucket.

RML group does mention in the video that there is significant work underneath that was done no one will ever see when it’s driving down the road. Most people who’ve seen videos of this car know that it’s super loud so we can safely assume the exhaust is one of those modifications, amongst others.

Technically, no one is going to stop you from driving an Aston Martin Vulcan unmodified on any road. But if you get caught, you’ll have to pay the piper and most likely get your car impounded. But, if you do it right and throw enough money at the right people (like these RML guys,) you can have the piece of mind to drive one on the street without a doubt in your mind.
