Hennessey Performance went above and beyond this Christmas season and managed to make a Christmas tree hit 174 MPH strapped to a Hellcat.

John Hennessey and his cracking team of speed experts in Sealy, TX didn’t have to do it but it’s the Christmas season and they did it anyway. According to Hennessey Performance and a video they dropped earlier today (Dec. 21,2017) Hennessey pulled off a Christmas miracle of sorts and got a Christmas tree to travel 174 MPH. Strapped to the roof of a 2018 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Widebody, this Christmas tree got him plenty quick. Check out the awesome video below.

According to John Hennessey in the video,

At Hennessey Performance we like to do things a little differently. We’ve all gone to the Christmas tree place, got the tree got the kids…and we’re going 30-40 MPH and I was wondering how fast the Christmas tree would really go if we had a really fast car.

Hennessey Performance hit up Dodge with their wacky proposal to get a Christmas tree from Lowes and to strap it to the roof of one of their fastest cars, the Dodge Demon. John Hennessey says Dodge wasn’t quite ready to give them a Demon yet but they were still probably a little peeved that Hennessey Performance came out with a competitor to the Demon they dubbed the Exorcist.

Instead, Dodge gave them a Dodge Challenger Hellcat Widebody, which is still quite the capable beast. Underneath the hood is the same 707 HP supercharged 6.2L Hemi V8 from the Hellcat but instead of the 275 width tires on the standard Hellcat, this Widebody benefits from 305 width tires which roughly translates to even more grip, good for hooking up all 650 lb-ft.

The Dodge Challenger Hellcat Widebody has a top speed of 195 MPH. Although the Hellcat Widebody isn’t exactly aerodynamic, changes to the airflow, like strapping a tree to the roof definitely made top speed acceleration a little harder.

From 0-150 MPH, the Hellcat had no problem accelerating but after that, the Hellcat fought tooth and nail to keep on accelerating, which it did all the way to 174 MPH.

What would be really awesome is if some other car manufacturer decided to top them beginning one awesome Christmas tradition.
