What motivated this arson to light this Chevrolet Suburban on fire is beyond me but the Stockon PD needs your help in ID’ing this miscreant.
Police are still trying to figure out a motive as to why this idiot set an SUV on fire in Stockton but first, they need to nab this guy. According to Stockton Police in a Facebook post from earlier today (Mar. 7, 2018) they shared security footage showing a man walking up to an SUV in broad daylight as he proceeded to set the SUV on fire before walking away. Parked behind the SUV is the suspect’s getaway vehicle. After pouring a liberal amount of presumably gasoline in a water bottle onto the windshield (which would then pour into the engine bay) he proceeds to light some paper on fire which he uses to light the propellant. The fire does die down a bit after the initial lighting but lots of the flammable liquid ignites into the interior and continues to burn.
On March 3, 2018, the suspect went to a residence in the 9200 block of Neville Way and poured a flammable liquid on the victim’s parked vehicle and lit it on fire.
And yes, if you were wondering, this buffoon is smoking a cigarette while all of this is going down. Although it’s true that there’s little to zero chance that a lit cigarette can ignite gasoline and it was busted by Mythbusters that you can’t ignite gas like that in the movies, I doubt this guy knows that.
Police are asking anyone who might recognize this guy to come forward with information. There’s contact information in the Facebook post above.
Some people in the comments are throwing out wild guesses like this is an insurance job or he’s the SUV owner’s former lover or some nonsense. More than likely this is just some idiot with too much time on his hands with nothing better to do then start some random fires in the middle of the day.
