The Shelby GT350 isn’t meant to be a drag car but that doesn’t mean owners aren’t burning rubber down the quarter-mile.

Whereas the Shelby GT500 is a bonafide straight line king with a supercharged V8 making 662 HP and 631 lb-ft, the Shelby GT350 is the more track-focused Mustang meant to out-corner a BMW M4 and Porsche 911 on Laguna Seca than down Sacramento Raceway’s quarter-mile. But Mustang owners are still going to Mustang and that means straight line passes. Thanks to Youtuber BigKleib34 and his video from earlier this week (Apr. 4,2018) while he was at Cecil County Dragway we’ve got some real deal passes from a Shelby GT350 as it makes its way down the quarter-mile. Check out the video for yourself below.

All in all, we get to see three runs from this track-bred Mustang. With the weather looking really good and compliant for some drag racing, quick times, despite a couple of shaky starts, were put down.

His first run is up against some kind of hot-rodded F-150 with some serious get-up-and-go as although the GT350 gets the dub in 12.63, that F-series hustles to the finish in 13.24. What’s underneath the hood of that truck?

In his second race, the GT350 is up against a drag-ready Nova and manages his best time, a 12.04-second pass.

His last race was super interesting with another late model Mustang in the other lane. With the other Mustang putting down a faster time on his timecard, the GT350 heads down the quarter mile more than a full second before. Despite that, the other Mustang really hauls it down his lane and both practically cross the finish line at the same time with a much higher trap speed of 126 MPH compared to the GT350’s 115 MPH.

The GT350 is no joke. Its naturally aspirated V8 puts out a stellar 526 HP and 429 lb-ft. But with its peak horsepower coming in at 7,500 RPM, this engine, naturally, is a screamer and you really have to get in its upper rev range to lay all its power down. Redline is at a Honda-like 8250 RPM.

The Shelby GT350 can theoretically go even faster. The guy’s at Autoevolution have one with slicks breaking 12 at 11.96 seconds.

Not too shabby for a pony meant to take corners.
