It’s not often you come across a heart warming, albeit brief story, of how this 2007 Ford Mustang turned out to be the perfect college car.

Scrolling through Reddit’s /r/car’s subreddit, I couldn’t help but read this heartwarming story of this car guy’s first love, a brand-new 2007 Ford Mustang. According to Reddit user Commodore64k, he decided to finally sell his 2007 Ford Mustang after a solid tour through college, but not before a proper sendoff, a three thousand mile road trip! But that’s not even the most interesting part.

When he finally puts this Mustang up for sale, the odometer will read 230,000 miles plus. In the total years he’s owned it, he’s racked up a lot of miles on this Mustang. Presumably, those were many joy-filled miles driving to and from home, taking long college trips, enjoying nights out with friends and just being an overall great little sports car.

As mentioned, this car was a brand new car off the lot. The 2007 Ford Mustang retailed for under $20,000 if you sprung for the absolute cheapest model with most hovering around $25,000 and some change.

And before you write these Redditor off for having some rich parents, think again because every dollar spent was a dollar earned by his own blood, sweat, and tears.

“Actually bought it myself. Worked 40 hours a week In high school at a local hardware store. I worked every weekend and every weeknight. Bought this car to off to college with.”

As if karma had a hand on this kid’s hard work, the Mustang treated him well!

“It (the Mustang) was really good. Regular maintenance like brakes and ball joints, one alternator, and a water neck filler. That’s it.”

Some people chided him for his decision to sell his beloved Mustang. I, however, think this is the right decision, although a hard one.

That being said, what a snapshot of what good car ownership looks like. Although the Mustang and what I assume is the V6 under the hood, isn’t much to write home about, this guy bought it with his hard-earned money. As a result, he probably didn’t take it for granted and took care of it.

I don’t think you come across car stories like this anymore where new car owners work for their cars. Nowadays, I reckon, parents just send their kids off with their second-hand cars or finance them new ones.

Props to this guy’s parents for making him work for something nice.

I can only hope the this particular Mustang’s new owners treat this car just as good.
