James Dyson is serious about an electric car, so serious that he’s going to invest $715 Million into his electric car campus

Apple has its $5 billion campus in Cupertino, Tesla has its $465 million headquarters in Palo Alto and now Dyson has their soon to be $715 million electric vehicle campus on an airfield in Hullavington. Dyson announced earlier today over social media and in a very extensive press release earlier yesterday (Aug. 31,2018) that their electric car campus opened its doors to workers presumably getting started on one of the most hyped electric vehicles of 2018. Check out their tweet below.

Their announcement comes with an 84-page e-book that goes through the entire history of the airfield to its present day. Although I didn’t read it, thankfully all the important bits start on page 81.

To date, Dyson already invested over $110 Million into the airfield bringing it to where it is today. As you can see in the video, it’s quite impressive with the main hangers already outfitted with workspaces from top to bottom.

Phase Two heralds another $260 Million that will see this Hullavington airfield transformed even further. When all is said and done, Dyson plans to spend around $715 Million when the entire facility is running at full speed.

It will become a world-class vehicle testing campus. There will be test tracks for handling, rural and off-road courses, a skid pan, and perhaps, most interestingly, a high-speed runway for cars which can reach speeds of above 100 MPH.

Whoa, did you hear that Tesla? Your Tesla Model S and its 155 MPH top speed might be in jeopardy. Not really.

In addition, this campus will be able to accommodate 2,000 people include a sports center, café, and a visitors center. Room is filling fast as already 400 members of Dyson’s automotive team already moved in as of this writing.

The boys at Hullavington have their work cut out for them as per Green Car Reports, Dyson is rumored to have three electric vehicles as a goal with the first coming out by 2020. Or is that MY 2020?

Call me optimistic but this is turning out to be quite the investment from Dyson if they’re up to sinking THAT much money into this project. You bet your bottom dollar that automotive espionage of the highest degree will be a thing with this car in-development.

Dyson is known for making some useful, innovative, but at times, expensive products. A car? They’re going to have to deliver.
