Motor Trend got their hands on a Dodge Durango Pursuit with their hottest engine and it’s not the speed you should watch out for.

Motor Trend recently got their hands on Dodge’s entry into the pursuit vehicle game, the Dodge Durango Pursuit, and although the performance wasn’t that much to write home about, it wasn’t under the hood that got my attention. According to Motor Trend, this Durango has a special export “autobahn brake package” with the largest brakes and rotors at 13.8 inches up front and 13.0 inches in the rear. This enables the Dodge Durango Pursuit to stop in an astonishing 134 feet from 60 MPH. In an overall package without a driver that weighs in at a colossal 7,100 pounds, I’m flabbergasted.

Consider the more common FCA pursuit car, the Dodge Charger Pursuit. That four-door sedan weighs 4,522 pounds with an AWD drivetrain, and that’s with the same exact engine.  Although they don’t tout how well the Charger Pursuit brakes, as per the Michigan State Police in their own independent testing, they managed an average of 135 feet from 60 MPH. Yah, the Durango Pursuit outbrakes a Charger Pursuit.

The key to its braking performance comes courtesy of not only larger brakes but a special front fascia, exclusive to the Durango Pursuit, that has integrated brake cooling air ducts. Not only are they heavy duty brakes, ironically they’re also vented, further enhancing the cooling capabilities of this massive police pursuit vehicle.

Motor Trend also dropped this pearl of wisdom that it would behoove any police department shopping between the choices for a performance pursuit SUV to consider Durango’s longer wheelbase, better driving position, and slightly better weight-to-power ratio compared to its competition when making their decision.

I think they should also consider just how well these Durango’s brake!

It’s also pretty fast. When the aforementioned Michigan State Police husted one through its paces last year, a Durango RT AWD model managed to hit 60 MPH in 7.1 seconds and 100 MPH in 17 seconds, still somewhat impressive for the, more than three-ton SUV.

The Durango Pursuit’s are here, folks. They’re quick, can brake, and haul lots of police stuff. I wouldn’t outrun one if given the opportunity. Just pull over.
