If you thought some Honda dealerships are done adding dealer additional markup to Honda Civic Type R’s, you’re so wrong.

When Honda first launched the 2017 Honda Civic Type R the hype was understandable given we didn’t know just how many Honda Civic Type R’s would be made. ADM or additional dealer markup was not only expected, you’d be a fool if you didn’t add a bit to the MSRP. But two years later as per Civic X earlier last week (Sept. 13,2018) not only is Hall Honda of Virginia Beach adding ADM to this 2018 Honda Civic Type R in Championship White, they’re going for a record with $15,000 in “market adjustment.” Get.Out.Of.Town!

Hall Honda of Virginia Beach is charging $15,000 additional dealer markup on this Honda Civic Type R

Here’s the tail of the tape.

  • $34,700- MSRP
  • $895- Destination cost
  • $15,000 – Additional Dealer Market or market adjustment
  • $99- ??? Can’t make out on Monroney.
  • $299- Crystal Fusion windshield protection
  • $99- Nitrogen inflated tires
  • $149 Pureti fresh and clean window glass treatment
  • Total Price – $51,241

Here’s a screenshot of Hall Honda’s listing on their website. If you compare the stock # with the one on the window sticker, that’s how you know this is the particular one on CivicX.

As mentioned, no one really knows how many Honda Civic Type R’s Honda will make. As per a rep from the Swindon UK factory, Honda is able to make about 13,000 a year, enough to keep up with demand at the time.

The last Honda Civic Type R, the FK2, Honda only sold about 16,000 Type R’s before ending production as the Civic Type R came near the end of this Civic hatch’s life cycle. Honda didn’t have a limit per se.

Thanks to some Honda Civic Type R fans, there’s an unofficial worldwide registry with Civic Type R owners voluntarily posting their Badge No’s. The highest number is R-19636 which means there are at LEAST that many on the road.

It’s safe to say Honda isn’t exactly putting a limit on this new Civic Type R as far as numbers go. If there’s demand, they will make more.

Earlier in July, I mentioned that a 2019 Honda Civic Type R was on the way, one that was testing on the famed Nurburgring, so, Honda is planning to sell even MORE!

The gist of it is that there’s no shortage, this Virginia Beach Honda dealership is downright nuts to add that much additional dealer markup, and if you don’t believe me, head on over to CivicX.com, particularly this thread, and see for yourself.

You CAN find a 2018 Honda Civic Type R for sticker or just a tad more. Don’t buy from Hall Honda or any other Honda dealership like this, with their egregious markup.
